65 years after independence

This year on 15 of August, we will be completing 65 years of our Independence. When we were ruled by the British, our great heroes fought too hard for our independence. While some fought for the country’s independence, others fought for Independence of human race from the evil customs and practises in India. The old India surrounded by century old traditions and customs was too biased on certain section of the society, which included people from low castes and women. They had no right to speak whatever.

Today, 65 years after achieving independence where are we? Have we really progressed or still at the same place. According to me, we have moved far ahead and advanced ourselves to a great extent in some segments.

As you all know, we were almost robbed completely by the British but today we after 65 years of independence we have managed to get into the developing nation category. This is quite good and appealing that we are not as bad as we think of. Frankly speaking, have we developed as much in the social front as well. In the year 1947, we suffered from poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition and countless more in the list. However, with the passing years we have managed to tackle some of them but not completely.

The main reason for being so socially lagged is the extremely under developed mindsets of people, strong holding to century old beliefs and a large number of uneducated people. Despite of becoming an international name in several fields and signing the nuclear pact, we have the most cases of female infanticide, dowry deaths, child marriages, rapes, domestic violence and so on.

The day all these crimes come to an end we will be independent in real words. Independence in real words not just means to progress on the international front and not consider the basic social issues as well.

If not in 65 years, we can surely hope to make India free from all these issues in the coming years. Let’s not just hope but take an oath to put in our individual efforts to do our best to get rid of these evil systems in our country.
